UMED Shiksha Setu is a comprehensive initiative by Umed Foundation aimed at transforming lives through education. From residential support for single-parent students to scholarships, school kits, daycare centers for migrant children, and learning spaces for waste picker communities—this program connects underserved children to opportunities that empower, uplift, and inspire lifelong learning.
UMED Shiksha Setu – Bridging Educational Upliftment
UMED Shiksha Setu is Umed Foundation’s flagship initiative
dedicated to transforming lives through inclusive and sustainable education.
Designed to address the diverse challenges faced by underprivileged children
and youth across Maharashtra, this program brings together multiple impactful
sub-projects under one unified mission: to ensure that no child is left
behind in their journey of learning and growth.
1. Mayech Ghar – A Home for Learning
Mayech Ghar is a residential hostel that offers a safe,
nurturing, and supportive home for nearly 47 underprivileged children. It
serves students from remote and marginalized backgrounds, including single‑parent
families, tribal communities, migrant workers, homeless families, beggars, and
farmers. By ensuring stable accommodation, uninterrupted education, and
continuous emotional support, Mayech Ghar helps children develop confidence,
resilience, and the opportunity to thrive—academically
and in life.
2. Scholarship Program
Since 2014, more than 573 students across Kokan and Western Maharashtra
have benefited from financial assistance through our scholarship program. This
initiative supports meritorious yet economically challenged students, enabling
them to pursue their education without the burden of financial constraints. The
program is specifically designed to encourage higher education and vocational
courses, helping students build skills, confidence, and sustainable career
pathways.
3. Education Aids for the Underprivileged
To strengthen foundational learning, Umed Foundation has
distributed over 7,550 school kits to children in need as of 2026. Each kit
includes essential items such as notebooks, stationery, and school bags,
ensuring that every child begins the academic year with confidence, dignity,
and the tools required to learn effectively.
4. Day Care Centers for Migrant Children
We operate five day‑care centers dedicated to
supporting children from seasonally migrated families. These centers provide a
safe and caring environment that includes early childhood care, nutrition, and
pre‑school
education. By ensuring continuity of care and learning during migration
periods, the program helps prevent educational disruption and child labor,
giving young children a stable foundation for healthy growth and development. Approx.
450 children supported under this program since 2016.
This center delivers structured education to over 35 children from waste‑picker families, equipping them with essential literacy and life skills while creating a clear pathway out of generational poverty. It represents a meaningful step toward dignity, inclusion, and lasting change.
